Nickelsville Tent City comes to the 37th Legislative District
The 37 Legislative District Democrats would like to extend a warm welcome to “Nickelsville” Tent City, an encampment of homeless men and women who pitched approximately 60 tents on the grounds of Bryn Mawr United Methodist Church near Skyway on March 5th. The encampment, dubbed “Nickelsville” as a political jab at Seattle mayor Greg Nickels, will be on the church grounds for three months and will likely have to move to a different location in early June if it is not granted an extension to its permit.
“The 37 LD Democrats will do their best to help meet the needs of the men and women in this Tent City and make them feel welcome while they are living in our district” said our Chair, Brendan Patrick. “It is sad that we have people who have to live in a tent city, while millions of public and private dollars have gone to housing sports teams and an opera” he continued.
We will discuss the best way to help the residents of Nickelsville at our April General Membership Meeting. In the mean time, anyone wishing to help can contact to the Seattle/King County Coalition on Homelessness at homelessinfo.org or by mail, 77 S. Washington St., Seattle WA 98104.
