Endorsements Meeting June 8 2009

It’s that time of year again! At our June 8 General Membership Meeting we will be endorsing candidates seeking office in the August 18 Primary Elections.  During the Meeting we will be endorsing candidates in any or all of these races.

King County Executive

King County Assessor

King County Council Position 5

Port of Seattle Commissioner Position 1, 3 & 4

Mayor of Seattle

Seattle City Attorney

Seattle City Council Positions 2, 4, 6 & 8

Seattle School Board Director Positions 5 & 7

For those of you who want to do some research on who is running and what their platforms are the King County Democratic Central Committee has a terrific resource on their website (www.kcdems.org). Under the 2009 Elections section you will find a link to the “Races & Candidates” page, which contains the names of the candidates, their website and the completed KCDCC Questionnaire.

As a reminder to all members the 37th LD Democrats require all candidates seeking our endorsement to submit in writing a declaration that they are a Democrat. Also a sole endorsement can only be obtained by a 3/5th majority vote of the members present and a dual endorsement is out of order until the third ballot.  Each candidate seeking our endorsement will be given one minute to address the membership followed by a two minute member debate period using a 30 second for/30second against format.

Our June 8 meeting will take place at our new meeting location the Rainier Valley Cultural Center 3515 S Alaska St, Seattle.  The social half-hour will begin at 7pm and the meeting will be called to order promptly at 7:30pm.
