Southeast Seattle Neighborhoods and Business Groups Collaborate on Candidates’ Forum

July 13, 2009 – 10:41 am by smwolfejr

Local neighborhoods, community groups and businesses in Southeast Seattle are partnering to collaborate in hosting the Southeast Seattle Candidates’ Forum for Citywide Races being held on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. at Aki Kurose Middle School, located at 3928 S Graham St, Seattle. The forum will feature a “Meet and Greet” session from 6:00 p.m.-6:20 p.m. with complimentary refreshments being served and the Forum will commence at 6:20 p.m.  Professional on-site childcare will be available at no cost. This special event will be moderated by C.R Douglas from the Seattle Cable Channel 21.

Led by the Rainier Beach Community Watch Group, Action Seattle and the Rainier Beach Empowerment Coalition, the sponsors and the presenting partners of the forum, including the 37th LD Democrats, are preparing for this event to serve as a impetus for candidates running for mayor, city council and school board seats to address the issues that are important to Southeast Seattle.  The forum will also enable residents, active and non-active in the political process, to be informed about the candidates; voice their issues and concerns; pose relevant questions; and hear first-hand from the candidates’ on their positions.  The forum will also serve as a great source of information especially in time for the first All mail-in-ballot Primary Election.

Candidates for the Mayoral, City Council Positions 4, 6 & 8 and School Board Positions 5 & 7 races have been invited.  Please note that since the candidates running for City Attorney and City Council Position 2 will not be on the Primary Ballot, they have been excluded from this forum, but will be included in a future forum to be held during the general election.

The theme for the Forum will be “Economic Development and Public Safety for Southeast Seattle.”

Mark your calendars and help spread the word. This is a forum you won’t want to miss!   Tell your friends, neighbors and family members to lend their voices and show their support for Southeast Seattle by attending the forum and being informed when they cast their votes during the Primary Election on August 18th.
