Election of new 2nd Vice-Chair

August 10, 2009 – 2:45 pm by smwolfejr
At our September meeting, we will be electing a new second vice chair for finance following the resignation of Gerhard Letzing.   Gerhard, who led the district’s successful efforts to raise several thousand dollars in advance of the 2008 caucuses.  Thanks to Gerhard’s work on behalf of the district, the district raised sufficient funds to pay for the rental of all precinct and district caucus locations with funds to spare for GOTV.  Unfortunately Gerhard has decided to direct his focus on other commitments and resign his post as second vice chair for finance.

The opening in this position gives us an opportunity to re-think our entire finance and fundraising plan.  The second vice chair directs our financial activities, special events, and membership.  While the treasurer does most of the nitty-gritty work of maintaining our accounts, tracking our members, and reporting to the Public Disclosure Commission, the second vice chair is responsible for growing our membership and raising the funds that sustain our month-to-month operations and-ideally-reach all the voters in the district with our GOTV message.   In practice, our membership income covers our routine operating  expenses while our special fundraising income is the gravy that pays for GOTV.
A good fundraising operation can’t be run by one person alone.   We need several people with various skills and interests working together as a team.  Over the next month I’ll be looking for volunteers to join that team.  If you are interested in joining the fundraising team or running for second vice chair, please contact me (chair@37dems.org).   At our September meeting we will elect a second vice chair and I will appoint a fundraising committee.
