More Volunteers Needed NOW

I just received word that the GOTV headquarters needs more volunteers. No need to email or call, just stop by if you have some time. If you’re at work, tell your boss you’re sick and come on down.
The headquarters are at 3867 Rainier Avenue S, just across the street from the Safeway (park near the video store and cross Rainier).

REMINDER:
Don’t forget the victory party tonight! This is the ONLY official 37th District Democrats victory party and you’re invited!
The party will be at the Columbia City Theater, 4916 Rainier Avenue S, Seattle.
Come by as soon as you’re done getting out the vote!
I understand some Ezell’s chicken may be available. (:

Howard Dean Coming to Beacon Hill

Howard Dean will be rallying canvassers on Beacon Hill this Sunday.

The event kicks off at 10:30 at Van Asselt Community Center (corner of S. Myrtle Street and Beacon Avenue S.). I’ve been warned that parking can be tight, so plan to arrive early. Gov. Dean will speak at 10:30 a.m., after which we’ll canvass to get out the vote. If you’re coming, email us to let us know. We want to have enough canvass packets ready!

You’re invited to join your fellow Democrats at the November 4 Election Victory Party!

We don’t want to take anything for granted quite yet, but we do want to make sure everyone has the 37th District Democrats Victory Party on their calendars.

The party will be at the Columbia City Theater, 4916 Rainier Avenue S, Seattle
Nov. 4, Doors open at 5 p.m. (come by as soon as you’re done getting out the vote!)

We’ll be viewing election returns on the big screen. There will be some music, drinks and food will be available. We’re also expecting some very exciting special guests!

Absentee ballots were mailed the week of October 15. If you haven’t received yours by October 21, call toll-free: 1-877-WA CHANGE (1-877-922-4264), helping voters throughout the state of Washington.

Just a couple quick points:

You can confirm you are registered to vote here: http://www.kingcounty.gov/elections.aspx . Just fill in your information in the upper right-hand corner. If you see a sample ballot, you’re all set.
The last day to register online or by mail was Oct. 4
It’s NOT too late to register to vote if you aren’t registered currently (check with King County Elections for details)
You can register IN PERSON at King County Elections headquarters at 919 SW Grady Way
Renton, WA 98057-2906. Hours are weekdays 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
The last day to register in person is October 20

Today is the last day to register to vote without going in person to the Elections office. Be sure you’re registered!

You may not be aware that since 2006, Washington’s Republican Secretary of State has canceled more than 450,000 voter registrations in an effort to “clean up” the voter rolls.

It doesn’t take much to get removed from the voter rolls. You may have been removed if, for example:
1. You haven’t voted in a long time,
2. Your signature on your absentee ballot envelope wasn’t deemed a match with the signature on your registration card, or
3. Your absentee ballot was returned by the post office (the post office doesn’t forward ballots to your new address).

Everyone should check to make sure you are currently registered at your current address. You can do this online, and in most cases you can update your registration online. But you must make any changes by October 4!

Election Anxiety/Volunteer Opportunity

Nervous about the election…..do something!!!! Our main September Project is to register new voters and find folks who may need to update voter information. We are having great success contacting people at local grocery stores. Call today and sign-up for a two hour shift….evenings/weekends. It is fun! It is successful! Bring a friend to work with you or we will arrange a partner for the shift.

From the Seattle PI:

King County has signed up more than 16,000 new voters so far this month, a number that includes voters previously registered in other counties in the state. The rate of new registrations likely will increase closer to the October deadlines for signing up for the November election, officials said.

In 2004, more than 75,000 voters were added to the King County rolls between the registration deadline for the Sept. 14 primary that year and the general election cut-off date.

Last month, more than 19,000 new voters were enrolled, marking the seventh consecutive month with more than 10,000 new registrants.
