As a reminder to all the 37th Legislative District Democrats meet on the second Monday of every month at the Rainier Valley Cultural Center 3515 S Alaska St, Seattle. The social half-hour begins at 7pm and the meeting is called to order at 7:30pm.

New South Precinct Captain to speak at October Meeting

September 22, 2009 – 1:09 pm

Captian David Emerick will be speaking at our October 12 General Membership Meeting. Capt. Emerick took command of the Seattle Police Department’s South Precinct in July of this year, he’ll be addressing us on what the Police here in the South precinct have been doing to address the youth and gang violence and the general uptick in criminal activity in South and Southeast Seattle. As a reminder our Membership Meetings are the second Monday of every month at the Rainier Valley Cultural Center, 3515 S Alaska St Seattle. They begin with a social half-hour at 7pm and the meeting is promptly called to order at 7:30pm.

Obama Cabinet Secretaries Visit the 37th

The 37th LD had the honor of playing host to two Cabinet Secretaries during the month of August.  On August 10 U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan was on hand to commemorate the groundbreaking of Tamarack Place, an 86 unit low income housing development at ML King Jr. Way S & S Alaska St.  Tamarack Place is part of Phase II of the Rainier Vista development.  Also in attendance were Sen. Patty Murray, Rep. Jim McDermott, Mayor Greg Nickels, King County Councilmember Dow Constantine and King County Assessor Candidate Bob Rosenberger.

 

On August 18 U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack came to Seward Park to deliver his first major policy speech on his vision for the U.S. Forest Service and forest management. His vision places a high priority on restoration to protect water resources and combat climate change, saying “Conserving our forests is not a luxury”.  Secretary Vilsack was joined by Rep. Norm Dicks and Lt. Governor Brad Owen.
