The 37th Legislative District Democratic Party Caucus will be held on Sunday, March 14 at 1:00 pm.  The caucuses are a grassroots process where Democrats come together across the state to voice their opinion about the direction the Washington State Democratic Party should take in the 2010 Congressional Election. The caucuses also provide an invaluable opportunity for building the party in preparation for our 2012 election efforts and will give attendees the chance to introduce resolutions on issues about which they are concerned.

Common questions
Here are some of the questions we’re getting right now. Please check this list to see if your question is here:

Q: Where did the Precinct Caucus go?
A: The Washington State Democratic Central Committee decided to eliminate the precint caucuses during the mid-term congressional election cycle due to low turn-out in most precincts and the high costs of running precinct caucuses.  The precinct caucuses will be back for the 2012 Presidental Election, when we re-elect President Obama!

Q: I’ve never been to a Legislative District Caucus. What do you do at these Caucuses?
A:  The primary function of the Legislative District Caucus is to elect delegates from the 37th Legislative District to the Democratic State Convention, being held in Vancouver, WA June 25-26.  We will also decide on the 37th Legislative District Democrats’ platform, which is our statement of values as Democrats. This is the time when we send resolutions advocating for certain policy positions to the State Convention, and also hear from some of our elected officals in Olympia and Washington DC.

Q:  How do I run for delegate to the Sate Convention and what is involved in being a delegate?
A:  To run for State Delegate representing the 37th Legislative District you must live in and be registered to vote in the 37th, and sign the nomination form at the Caucus nominating yourself for election.  If you are one of the 33 delegates or 17 alternates elected you will be expected to travel to Vancouver, WA for the State Convention June 25-26.  Once at the State Convention you will be representing all of your fellow Democratic friends and neighbors in the 37th Legislative District.
